1-oz American Silver Eagles are the world’s most popular government-issued legal tender silver coins. Since their inception in 1986, more than 200 million have been minted.
Legally, each Silver Eagle is a $1 coin. However, they sell for the value of their silver content plus a small markup to cover the cost of manufacture and distribution.
Silver Eagles come from the US Mint packaged in durable green plastic boxes, 500 coins to a box, 25 tubes of 20 coins each. A box weighs 41 pounds and measures 15″X9″X5″.
Other legal tender 1-oz silver coins are the RCM’s Silver Maple Leafs and the Austrian Mint’s Silver Philharmonics.
