The 99.999% fineness gold Maples are here! We are now offering the new Limited Edition 2007 gold Maple Leaf from the Royal Canadian Mint, minted of gold refined to an extraordinary .99999 fineness.

Each coin is individually packaged in a plastic card holder that protects the delicate surface of these pure gold coins. The "leaf" design has also been changed for this issue, the first significant design change since the Maple was introduced in 1979. The Mint will continue to strike the regular .9999 ("four nines") Maple on a regular production basis, and this "five nines" Maple is strictly a promotional issue.

The number of .99999 gold Maples is going to be limited by the RCM's capacity to turn out the highly refined planchets from which they are striking these unique coins. At this point we have obtained a small supply, but they may not last long.

The Royal Canadian Mint has also made a few 100-kilogram versions of this coin, pictures of which you may have seen in the media over the past few days. It appears to be about the size of a small car tire, and will be available on a made-to-order basis for those who feel the need for a 220-pound gold coin as a conversation piece.

But if 3,251.1 troy ounces is a bit beyond your budget, we encourage you to try a few of these 1-ounce coins.

Canadian Gold Maple Leaf

Canada’s gold Maple Leafs are popular the world over, particularly in India and the Far East where pure gold is the most accepted and familiar form of gold bullion, even in small weights. Gold Maples are also a favorite with jewelers everywhere, because pure gold bullion is easily alloyed to produce the desired color and hardness.

Canadian gold Maple Leafs were first produced in 1979, during one of the wildest years in gold trading of the 20th Century (see Charts section, and notice 1979 gold prices spike from $220 to over $600 during 1979). At that time, the only one ounce gold bullion coin available was the Krugerrand, struck in South Africa in the traditional 22-karat gold purity typical of coinage throughout history.

Canadian Maple Leafs pioneered the concept of gold coins without alloy – just a round disc of 99.9% pure gold that doesn't need the strengthening of an alloy, because the coin will never circulate or be handled. It was an immediate success, and by the early 1980’s was actually outselling the Krugerrand, which had been the only one ounce gold bullion coin available since its debut in 1967.

We sell mint condition one ounce gold Maples in the tubes of ten coins as issued by the Royal Canadian Mint. The fractional size Maples come individually sealed in plastic sheets, and therefore they unfortunately take up a lot of space per ounce of gold.
